Tell Us Your Story About a Moment of Flux
Dear Friends,
It’s ugly times out there, with change (or threats thereof) happening more quickly than we can absorb.
We need activism. We need calls to Congress. We need to chop wood, carry water, repeat. We need each other. And, we need art.
Writing is one way to to transform experience into something meaningful, maybe even something of beauty, something that one day, maybe far in the future, if we decide to stick with it, and if we’re lucky, might even bloom.

I’m honestly not sure if creating writing is the equivalent of planting iris, but here’s a prompt nevertheless: tell us a story of surviving a time of tumult, disruption, change—a story, in other words, of living through flux.
It might be your story. It might be a story about someone older than you, someone who has lived through a previous period of seismic shift. It might be about someone younger who has gone through a thing and come out the other side. For examples from recent (including very recent) history, see here, here, and here.
If you’re writing about something happening now, you might think of the piece as a moment frozen in amber or an archival snapshot for inclusion in a time capsule, for future generations.
My idea is simply to share this space, to open it up and make room for more stories about living through flux for the sake of those who might need to write them and those who might need to read them right about now.
Stories help us feel less alone.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Submissions should be limited to 500-1,000 words. Tell us an active, first-person true story that revolves around a single dramatic scene or moment. Even though flash essays are short, they should have a beginning, middle, and end. Something should happen. Your central character (whether it’s you, or someone else) should have an arc. The story should be enticing to read.
Email me at deborah@girlmeetsvoice.com and write “WTFlux Submission” in the subject line. You should hear from me within 2 weeks about whether I am able to publish your piece.
Let’s see what comes in.
I NEED YOUR HELP: Please pass this call along. Thank you in advance for sharing this post in a note or otherwise!
